Criteria for the Extraction of Fish Oil CIGR Journal
BAKO, TANKO; VICTOR, UMOGBAI I; J, AWULU O.
The effect of pre-treatment of mackery (Scomber scombrus) on oil recovery and quality was investigated. Fish oil was extracted using the screw expeller press after heat pre-treatment of the fish sample. The effect of cooking temperatures and cooking times was evaluated. It was observed that the oil yield has a positive relationship with cooking temperature. The oil yield increased with increasing cooking temperature at all the cooking times investigated and also increased with increasing cooking time from 5-15 minutes and then decreased for 20 minutes cooking time at all the cooking temperatures investigated. The results revealed that a highest yield of 22.8 % was obtained when the fish was treated at 90 0C cooking temperature for 15 minutes. The lowest...

Diallel among soybean genotypes with high oil content and resistance to sudden death syndrome BABT
Oliveira,Inocencio Junior de; Vello,Natal Antonio; Vieira,Paulo de Melo Jorge; Wyminersky,Philip Traldi.
The objective of this work was to use a partial diallel to evaluate the combining ability of 14 soybean genotypes and recommend superior combinations. Seven of the genotypes had high oil yield; other seven exhibited tolerance to sudden death syndrome and they generated 49 hybrids in a diallel cross without reciprocals. F2plants of each cross and the parents were evaluated for the following traits: number of days to maturity (NDM), oil content in the seeds (OC), grain yield (GY) and oil yield (OY). The results indicated the existence of genetic variability in the parents and progeny for all the traits. The rank of the parents based on the means was similar to the rank based on general combining ability (GCA) for all the traits. The specific combining...

OPTIMUM PROCESSING PARAMETERS FOR COCONUT OIL EXPRESSION CIGR Journal
Adekola, Kehinde Adedeji.
Coconut oil yield was found to be dependent on the following processing parameters: post heating moisture content, applied pressure, pressure duration, heating time and temperature to which the samples were subjected using hydraulic uniaxial compression. The highest coconut oil yield obtained was 51.9% at optimum condition. This yield corresponds to an expression efficiency of 81.2% of the total coconut oil content which represented 63.9% by weight of the copra (dried coconut flesh). The highest oil yield was obtained at an expression pressure of 25MPa when samples were conditioned to an initial moisture content of 11.3% w. b. and heated at 120ºC for 15min to obtain a post heating moisture of 7.13% w. b.        Increases in oil yield were recorded for...

Pequi Kernel oil extraction by hydraulic pressing and its characterization Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Lima,Janice Ribeiro; Souza,Arthur Claudio Rodrigues de; Magalhães,Hilton César Rodrigues; Pinto,Cláudia Oliveira.
Abstract The seed by-products of pequi pulp processing have a kernel in its core which is not used due to the difficulty of its extraction from the spinous endocarp. However, this kernel has high quality oil which can be used for human consumption. Thus, the kernel and the oil composition as well as the conditions to obtain the kernel oil by hydraulic pressing were evaluated in this study. The kernel showed high lipid content (55.76%), therefore being a good source for obtaining oil. The oil extraction by hydraulic pressing presented a higher yield at 5.5 tons to 6.0 tons of force and 9% to 10% moisture. Oil recovery was 75%. The pequi kernel oil showed low acid (0.17 mg KOH/g) and peroxide (1.22 mEq O2/kg) values. The kernel oil also presented high...
